Helen Bradshaw

(BABCP accredited)
Hello and welcome. I’m Helen, an experienced CBT and EMDR psychotherapist. I know life can be challenging and I’m here to support and guide you with whatever it is you would like help with. I use evidence based therapies alongside providing a safe space where we can explore together what has led to you seeking help, what you would like to be different and the most effective ways for you to achieve this. Drawing on a range of approaches and skills I will tailor our work to what suits you best. This may be about the here and now, the past, your mind, where you are holding distress in your body / nervous system, or often a combination.
I also have extensive experience in offering supervision to Counsellors / Therapists of varying disciplines and enjoy working together to develop and support you in your work with others.
I have a private practice in Marple Bridge, Stockport where I can meet with you face to face or online via Zoom or Teams. My practice is in my own home and is a private, comfortable and calm environment.
I provide a free 15 minute initial consultation by phone so we can think about whether what I offer will be a good match for you.

CBT
Cognitive behavioural therapy
CBT is a widely tested, effective therapy that works with how our thoughts, feelings and behaviour interact with each other.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR is a powerful and effective psychotherapy that works with trauma , depression, anxiety and other difficulties that may be getting in the way of the life you want.
Sudden accident - victim of crime - childhood events- any of these can leave you feeling unable to function.
Low mood and depression can leave you feeling hopeless and unmotivated brought on by an event or for no discernible reason.
Anxiety takes many forms and can be frightening, unpleasant and exhausting.
Often none of the these are confined to a singular experience, rather a combination which can feel overwhelming. We have typically developed ways of coping which are usually very understandable but also limiting our lives and impacting those around us.
Therapy can help us untangle the various components of our experience and offer us clarity, knowledge and skills to move more positively into the future.
“I had a short number of EMDR sessions with Helen to help me work through a traumatic bereavement that was continuing to affect me. While the thought of reliving this was scary for me, Helen made me feel incredibly supported in all of the sessions and allowed me to take everything at my own pace. Being able to stop when the process became overwhelming was really important to me and helped me feel safe.
Although I found EMDR difficult at first, with Helen's support I was able to let go of my reservations and I found myself processing feelings and memories that I didn't even realise I was carrying with me. I was able to let go of the guilt I had been feeling and to my surprise, could no longer recall the images that had been so triggering for me.
EMDR was incredibly cathartic and healing for me and I am very grateful to Helen for all of her help.”
